Knollenberg condemns North Korean nuclear test claim

Bloomfield Hills , MI – Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-MI/09) has released the following statement in response to reports that North Korea has claimed a successful nuclear weapons test.

“The claim by North Korea that it has conducted a nuclear weapons test is disturbing and unacceptable. With this claim, North Korea’s tyrannical leader, Kim Jong-Il, has thumbed his nose at the international community and has proven that he is not interested in the stability of the region or the safety of his own people.

I agree with the President and with governments of Japan , South Korea , China and Russia that this claim by North Korea and their continued quest for nuclear weapons is intolerable. I condemn the actions by North Korea and support the call for immediate action by the United Nations.

Again and again North Korea has disregarded international treaties and the world is running out of patience. We must not tolerate these actions any longer. It is time North Korea realizes that America and the international community will not accept this dangerous and arrogant behavior.”
