International Airport
WATERFORD
,
MI
-
Congressman John Mica (R-FL/07), Chair of the U.S. House
Transportation Sub-Committee on Aviation, will visit the
Oakland
County
International
Airport
on Thursday at the request of Congressman Joe Knollenberg
(R-MI/09).
The
two Congressmen will conduct an infrastructure, safety and
security review of the airport. The review will include a
briefing and tour by airport officials, and a discussion of
facility improvements and future funding needs.
“The
Oakland
County
Airport
has done a great job so far with the resources they have to
keep the airport up to speed and to provide valuable services
to our community,”
Congressman Knollenberg said, “As
we in
Michigan
are all aware, our economy is still struggling. Access to
facilities like Oakland International is essential to many of
our businesses in order to succeed in a global marketplace.”
As
Chairman of the Aviation Sub--Committee, Rep. Mica has
oversight jurisdiction in all matters regarding civil aviation
including airport improvements, aviation safety and security,
and other related issues. Rep. Mica has conducted several
of these reviews at airports around the country in order to
gain first-hand perspective on the challenges and needs of
airports in a post -9/11 environment.
“I
am very pleased that Rep. Mica has chosen to visit
Oakland
County
airport. We have many accomplishments to share and challenges
to discuss, and his attention is greatly appreciated,”
Knollenberg continued.
