Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick Issues Statement on the Death of Former Detroit City Council President Maryann Mahaffey

Detroit, MI – Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (13th District-MI) issued the following statement about the death of former Detroit City Council president Maryann Mahaffey this morning:

“Maryann Mahaffey was a dedicated public servant and committed to the City of Detroit. Maryann, along with Erma Henderson, was one of the first women in leadership from the City of Detroit who helped teach me political leadership skills. She served the citizens of Detroit well with a fierce determination and courageous spirit for more than 30 years. She fought against injustice and was an advocate for children, women, and seniors. She had a powerful presence and touched the lives of millions. Maryann Mahaffey was a friend and a colleague, and I will miss her. I send my prayers to her husband Herman, daughter Susan, and granddaughter Lily. Thank you for sharing her with us.”
