Through my position as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I have worked to ensure that funding for veterans is not only increased, but that the funding is targeted to where it will serve best the veterans of the 5th District and the United States. This year, veterans funding was increased by $1.4 billion, bringing total spending on veterans health care to its highest level in history. Bringing quality veterans care closer to the men and women of the 5th District is also one of my top priorities. I have met personally with Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi about securing a Community Based Outpatient Clinic in the 5th District and remain actively involved in improving the conditions for the veterans I represent. Giving the men and women who sacrificed so much while in uniform the support they deserve will remain one of my top priorities as the 108th Congress moves forward. Recent News
