Congressman Jim Davis Calls for Comprehensive Immigration Reform

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jim Davis called on the House Republican Leadership to get serious about addressing our nation’s immigration problem.

The House of Representatives today considered three different immigration bills, each of which include important measures to address border security problems, but together, fail to provide a comprehensive solution to our nation’s immigration crisis.

Rep. Davis joined his House colleagues in passing HR 4830, The Border Tunnel Prevention Act, HR 6094, The Community Protection Act, and HR 6095, The Immigration Law Enforcement Act, but called on the House Leadership to join the Senate in holding an open, honest debate about immigration issues and working toward legislation that addresses the big picture.

“Yes, Congress does need to crack down on illegal border crossings, but the House cannot fool the American public into thinking that the three bills passed today constitute ‘immigration reform’,” said Congressman Jim Davis.  “The House’s action today fails to address the status of the 11 million illegal immigrants already residing in our country, fails to provide Border Patrol with the tools they need to do their jobs and fails to establish a practical guest worker program.  On an issue as important as immigration is to our communities, America deserves nothing less than a comprehensive solution.”
