House Approves Homeland Security Funds
Davis
calls bill an “important
step” in securing our communities
WASHINGTON,
DC
– Last night by a vote of 389 to 9, the House of Representatives
passed the Fiscal Year 2007 Homeland Security Appropriations bill, which
provides $33 billion, a 5 percent increase over last year, for our
nation’s homeland security needs.
Congressman Jim Davis, who voted for the bill, said the vote was “an important step toward
renewing the federal commitment to securing America’s communities.”
H.R. 5441 significantly
increases critical federal funds for cargo and container security at our
nation’s ports, including increases for the Coast Guard, Customs and
Border Protection and other federal agencies in charged of securing
facilities like the Port
of
Tampa. In addition, the bill
includes long overdue increases for border security and immigration
enforcement, as well as more funding for the Transportation Security
Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“Securing
our communities requires a team effort, and Congress must do its part to
help ensure that federal security agencies, first responders and
localities have the tools they need to keep
Florida
and America safe,” said Congressman
Jim Davis.
