Davis Supports Senate Anti-Drilling Bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jim Davis expressed his strong support for Senators Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez’s legislation to permanently protect Florida’s shores from offshore drilling, and he committed to working with his Florida House colleagues to introduce a House version of the bill.

“Florida’s shores are a national treasure – a beloved vacation destination, a critical money-maker for Florida’s tourist economy and a pristine habitat for countless species,” said Congressman Davis.  “Yet our coasts have come under increasing attack from energy companies and politicians who want to spoil our shores with oil and gas rigs.  The Permanent Protection for Florida Act will stop drilling proponents in their tracks and provide lasting protections that the current temporary moratoriums on drilling cannot provide.  I will be working with the Florida Delegation to draft a companion bill to introduce in the House of Representatives.”
