Senator Santorum Comments on Senate Stem Cell Debate
July 17, 2006
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today made the following statement regarding the debate in the U.S. Senate on stem cell research:
“This week, the Senate will be discussing three very important bills related to government funding of stem cell research. This debate will give the Senate the opportunity to support ethical research, while opposing research that destroys human life. I am hopeful that legislation that I have introduced -- S. 2754, the Alternative Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapies Enhancement Act and S. 3504, the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act -- will pass the Senate and be signed into law by President Bush. The Senate will also be debating H.R. 810, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, which I strongly oppose because I do not believe taxpayer dollars should support research that destroys human life.”
