Rep. Taylor Praised for Bringing Latest Technology to Military Academy

WEST POINT, NY , Nov 14, 2005 -

Congressman Charles Taylor was commended today for his work in improving technology at West Point Military Academy. “Information technology is pervasive and effective at the military academy,” said Lt. General William Lennox Jr., Superintendent of the Academy “During peak, we use about 100 megabits and will grow our bandwidth as demand increases. Each classroom is wireless capable and therefore a lab. We repair cadet computers the same day as they are turned in and instructors can build lessons that use technology.” Lt. General Lennox added, “Over the holidays we will be installing new self healing wireless networks covering all classrooms, company dayrooms and faculty and staff offices. All courses are accessed through blackboard, providing a single web portal for cadets to access courses and assignments and protecting Cadets most precious resource: time.”

Lt. General Lennox praised Taylor at the fall board meeting in West Point NY Monday, where Taylor has served for 8 years as a member of the West Point Board and Executive Committee, for his work in increasing broadband width capacity for the entire academy, including the library, classrooms and dormitories. Taylor, as Chairman of the Legislative Branch sub-committee, a few years ago brought staff from the Library of Congress to West Point to assist in reconstructing broadband levels. With the assistance of appropriations provided by Congress and Taylor’s subcommittee, Lt. General Lennox said West Point is leveraging information technology to develop leaders of character appropriately in providing an infrastructure that supports.
