CONGRESSMAN JENKINS ENCOURAGES FIRST DISTRICT TO JOIN AMERICANS IN RINGING OF BELLS TO HONOR LATE PRESIDENT ACROSS COUNTRY

TRIBUTE FOR REAGAN BY RINGING BELLS AT CIVIC PLACES AND PLACES OF WORSHIP FRIDAY JUNE 10 1:15 PM EDT

WASHINGTON - Rep. Bill Jenkins is asking places of worship in the First Congressional District of Tennessee to toll bells in tribute to the late President Ronald Reagan.

"President Reagan was a strong supporter of religious freedom and liberty, and the tolling of the bells across America at the time of the conclusion of the funeral service will be a fitting tribute," Jenkins said.

Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of California originated the idea of the bell ringing.  "The object is to have tens of thousands of places of worship all across the country simultaneously ringing out their tribute to President Reagan, as Reagan's funeral service concludes at 1:15 PM EDT.  It would be a very tangible and impressive gesture to Reagan, will bells tolling across our continent at the same time on Friday," Rohrabacher said.  The Reagan family has asked that bells be rung 40 times at 1:15 PM in honor of our 40th president.
