WASHINGTON, D.C.—Four city police departments and two county sheriff’s departments has been approved for local law enforcement grants in the First Congressional District of Tennessee.
Congressman Bill Jenkins said this week the grants come from the U. S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs.
“Law enforcement officers face danger on a daily basis in protecting our lives and property, and any additional funding will be money well-spent,” Jenkins commented.
Individual allocations are determined through a formula process and only those jurisdictions that qualify for awards of $10,000 or more receive direct awards from BJA.
The four city police departments receiving grants are Bristol, $11,808; Johnson City, $29.010; Kingsport, $27,413; and Morristown, $17,254.
The two county sheriff’s departments funded are Sullivan County, $21,915; and Washington County, $12,437.
