The Second Congressional District of Michigan comprises of 11 counties, stretching from Allegan to Benzie. On the coast of Lake Michigan, the second district covers 5,508 square miles and contains nearly 200 miles of beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline.

The district is home to 662,563 people (2000 consensus) and has the nation's largest concentration of Dutch-Americans.

In the 19th century, the area was known for its production of lumber. Now, the district maintains a diverse economy. Ranging from major companies such as Herman Miller and Gerber Foods to the agriculture industries of apples, asparagus, blueberries, cherries and dairy.
