Energy prices seem to be coming down a little bit, but I find that somewhat ironic that when you begin talking about having an excess profits rebate to people, and you get people like the majority leader of the United States Senate, and Senator Judd Gregg, a conservative senator from New Hampshire, start talking about profits along with the rest of us who’ve raised these issues for weeks, then all of a sudden, the industry finds a way to bring their prices down.

Hi this is Senator Chris Dodd. I’d like to take a few minutes during this podcast to talk to you about the Free Flow of Information Act. It’s a bill that Senator Dick Lugar of Indiana and I are sponsoring in the United States Senate. This bill is also known as the so-called "shield law." This legislation would establish some federal rules to protect citizens who actually step forward to tell the public about important matters, such as wrongdoing by powerful persons, utilizing the avenue of the media.

Whitney Harris is the oldest surviving member of the prosecutorial team at Nuremburg. He's 93 years of age, and I'm hoping that at 63, I'll look as good as he does at 93. He's a remarkably strong individual, and he gave a long and very poignant talk this evening about his recollections of being at Nuremburg.

10/02/05: Thoughts after the BRAC Rally

Submitted by Chris Dodd on October 2, 2005 - 10:43am.

Today's rally celebrated the BRAC commission’s vote to keep Sub Base New London open. This was important because it allows for our submarine technologies to remain a part of the structures of our national defense. This vote was really in my view a battle within the navy between the surface ships and the submariners.

When you have 400 submarines plowing the ocean of the world and more than half of them are being operated by countries that are not necessarily our allies, in fact a lot of them are quite the opposite, it seems important that we be able to respond to that technological threat. Submarines are a stealth technology; they’re what America’s going to need as part of our 21st century national defense.
