ST. MARY’S CITY, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer released the following statement today after joining citizens of Historic St. Mary’s City yesterday to mark the 370th anniversary of Maryland’s founding. Rep. Hoyer spoke to those participating in the ceremony and discussed the rich history of the city and the state.
Congressman Hoyer represents Historic St. Mary’s City and has helped to secure $500,000 in federal funds to rebuild the 1667 Brick Chapel.

Wednesday, March 24, 2004 Hoyer Praises Researchers for New Discovery to Help in Fight Against Rett Syndrome
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer today congratulated researchers at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, the Center for Addiction and Mental Health and the University of Toronto, for identifying a new form of the protein MECP2 which regulates the complex expression of Rett Syndrome (RS) and other neurological disorders including autism, childhood schizophrenia and some forms of mental retardation. This research is reported in the April issue of the journal Nature Genetics, which recently became available online. Congressman Hoyer has been a leader in Congress on Rett Syndrome for over a decade.

Friday, March 19, 2004 Hoyer Visits Major UPS Distribution Center in Laurel
LAUREL - Congressman Steny Hoyer today visited and toured the UPS regional distribution center in Laurel. Hoyer was led on the tour by UPS District Manager Sonia Schmidt Hoover. UPS is the world's largest package delivery company. Approximately 2,000 employees work out of the Laurel distribution facility, which serves the entire DC metropolitan area. Congressman Hoyer addressed close to 300 UPS employees at the center and recognized the facility’s impressive employee safety accomplishments.

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer released the following statement today following the release of a study by Admiral Harold Gehman regarding the cancelled servicing mission to the Hubble telescope. Admiral Gehman provided his views to Senator Barbara Mikulski at the request of NASA Administrator Sean O’Keefe. The Hubble Space Telescope is managed and operated by Goddard Space Flight Center, located in Congressman Hoyer’s district, for the Office of Space Science at NASA Headquarters.
