WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senator Kit Bond today announced that Missouri will receive $6.8 million for public transportation.

"Transportation is vital to our state's economic growth, and it will continue to be one of my top priorities," said Bond. "These dollars will make it possible for Missourians in Kansas City and across the state to have access to employment, health care, shopping and other important services."

The Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration will send Missouri $6,878,151 for the following transit projects:

* $4,610,900 for the Missouri Department of Transportation. These funds will be used for the purchase of various transit vehicles to provide transportation throughout the State of Missouri;

* $2,267,251 for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority. These funds will be used for the final design of a Bus Rapid Transit System in the Southwest Corridor.

As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee Bond secured these funds for Missouri in the fiscal year 2003 Appropriations bill.

Kit Bond is Missouri’s senior Senator and is now in his third term after having served the state previously during two terms as Governor.
