KANSAS CITY, MO - Senator Kit Bond today announced that the Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will send Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) $400,000 for public transportation needs in Independence.

"I am fighting for this money because I know how important a modern transportation system is to the economy. It’s a great investment in our future."

KCATA will use the $400,000 for construction costs for the Independence Transit Center to be located in Independence in Jackson County.

"More modern and efficient public transportation helps fight traffic congestion while also helping the environment, by taking more cars off the road," said Bond.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee and senior Senator from Missouri, Bond has secured millions of dollars for public transportation needs throughout the state.

Kit Bond is Missouri’s senior Senator and is now in his third term after having served the state previously during two terms as Governor.
