Education I want to help every student reach their fullest potential. I am proud to have played a part in moving legislation that gives local schools the flexibility to spend funds where they are most needed. Parents, teachers and local school administrators -- those who know the children's names -- must be given more control over education dollars; not the Washington bureaucracy. In addition to giving local schools more control, I support legislation that sets high standards -- holding states, school districts and individual schools accountable; provides the necessary funds to retain quality teachers; and develops literacy programs to guarantee that all students will be able to read by the third grade. I have worked to ensure that the emphasis is on the child, rather than the bureaucracy, allowing us to make real progress in our schools. Read what else Bond has to say on education issues.
