WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kit Bond, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, issued the following statement regarding today’s Senate confirmation of General Michael Hayden to be the nation’s next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency:

“General Hayden’s distinguished military background and his solid experience in intelligence matters makes him one of the most qualified individuals to lead the CIA today. He will bring needed ideas, energy and leadership to a critical agency in the war on terror.

“As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I look forward to working with General Hayden to improve coordination among intelligence agencies and to boost America’s human intelligence capabilities. These are critical areas that Gen. Hayden is committed to fixing as we fight a new kind of war against a determined enemy.”
