18 September 2002

Mr. Roel van der Lugt, Senior Legislative Assistant to U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee, received the "2002 Glenn Galbreath Spirit Award" from the Paralyzed Veterans of America today. The award was given to Mr. van der Lugt in thanks for his work on Inslee's legislation to increase organ donations and to create a new "veterans" coin that would fund a transportation program for veterans.

The plaque, which is in the shape of Washington State, states that the award is "for Roel van der Lugt's outstanding accomplishments in enhancing the delivery of health care and benefits to America's veteran and disabled communities."

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee's District Director, Kennie Endelman, received the award last year for her work to improve screening and treatment for Hepatitis C (HVC). Veterans suffer from HVC at a disproportionately higher rate than the rest of the population, and often have trouble establishing that they contracted HVC while in service.
