The Friends of the Kennedy Center volunteers give special Congressional tours Monday-Friday at 9:30am and 4:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 9:30am. The tour includes the theaters and the art collection, which features gifts from all over the world. The afternoon tour concludes in front of the Millennium Stage just in time for a free performance daily at 6:00pm. Marine Corps Friday Evening Parade. This superb ceremony, which is a summer-only event, entails a one hour and fifteen minute performance of music and precision marching. This popular D.C. event occurs every Friday evening at 8:45 p.m., from May 9-Aug.22. The First District office can reserve seating for constituents.

The Congressional tour of George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens is available from April 1 through October 31, at 8:45 a.m. The tour involves an exclusive walking tour of the Mount Vernon estates and concludes with a special ceremony at Washington's tomb. The First District office can reserve this tour, but you must still purchase tickets ($11.00 adults, $10.50 seniors, and $5.00 children) prior to 8:45 a.m. on the day of your tour.Following the tour, you may additionally explore the mansion.

The First District office can arrange a special "Behind-the-Scenes Experience," which consists of viewing select original documents. This visit does not include a tour of the building and visitors will not have the opportunity to view the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution.

The tour of the State Department is a fine arts tour of the agency's diplomatic reception rooms, and generally not recommended for children under the age of twelve.

When Court is in session, visitors can observe the oral arguments by waiting in one of two lines: seating for the line of those wishing to attend an entire argument begins at 9:30am and 12:30pm, while seating for the line of those wishing to observe the Court in session only briefly begins at 10:00am and 1:00pm. Public tours of the U.S. Capitol are available Monday-Saturday from 9:30am-4:30pm. The tours depart every half-hour. The line to obtain tickets for this tour is located next to the Garfield Traffic Circle at the Southwest corner of the Capitol Grounds, near the intersection of Independence Avenue and First Street SW. Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 8:15am for same-day tour tickets (each ticket is for a specific time). When Congress is in session, my office can also provide tickets to House and Senate Galleries (see below).

Staff-led Capitol Tours: Congressional staff-led tours of the Capitol are available. Constituents should contact my office to schedule a tour led by First District staff. Congressional tours are offered between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Congressional tour includes a viewing of the Capitol Rotunda, Statuary Hall, the old Supreme Court chamber, the Senate Rotunda and, if Congress is in session, the House of Representatives and Senate chambers. This tour will also introduce you to fascinating historical information concerning the Capitol and its individual rooms, and includes a survey of the Capitol's exceptional artwork.

Visit House and Senate Galleries: All visitors to the galleries must have a gallery pass for entry. Constituents should contact my office for a gallery pass. Visitors who only wish to enter the House or Senate Galleries without scheduling a tour of the Capitol Building still need to obtain a gallery pass for entry. The House of Representatives and Senate Galleries will continue to remain open while the House or Senate is in session.

The Washington Monument is currently closed to complete the security enhancement project on the grounds of the monument. It will reopen to the public in the spring of 2005. Free tickets are distributed for daily visits from the kiosk on the Washington Monument grounds at 15th Street and Madison Drive on a first-come first-served basis.
