Service Academy Nomination

To be considered for a nomination to either the Military, Naval, Air Force or Merchant Marine Academy, please print out the Service Academy Application, and mail the completed application to me at the address below. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view and print the application; download the free software.

You may also have an application mailed to you; please e-mail me or contact my Shoreline office and leave your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and the name of the academy in which you are interested. All applicants must be U.S. citizens, and reside in the First Congressional District of the State of Washington.

At the same time you are applying for a congressional nomination, you should also contact your academy of choice so that they may also begin your candidate file.

My identification number with the Educational Testing Service for the SAT test is 4477, and for the ACT test it is 7738.If you have not yet taken the test, you may list this code number on your request for score reports so that a copy of the report can be sent directly to my office.

Candidate File

Once the Service Academy Nomination Coordinator receives your application, a candidate file will be started and the First District office can begin accepting documents pertinent to the nomination process. These include:

  1. A copy of your high school transcript
  2. At least two letters of recommendation. One must be from your high school principal or counselor
  3. Your SAT or ACT scores.
    (My identification number with the Educational Testing Service for the SAT test is 4477; for the ACT test, it is 7738. If you have not yet taken the test, you may list this code number on your request for score reports so that a copy of the report can be sent directly to my office.)
  4. A one page essay explaining in your own words why you would like to attend an academy
  5. A brief resume listing your extracurricular activities, honors and employment

Not sure if you live in the First Congressional District? If you are not sure of your district, please go to this site. Enter your state and zip code, and the service will name your representative. You may also e-mail your representative through this site, but this is not necessary.
