22 July 2005 U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee joined other Members of Congress today at an oversight hearing on the national security consequences of disclosing the identity of a covert intelligence officer. The Members heard from a panel of witnesses that included former intelligence officers with the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency. Inslee and others want to find out whether White House officials breached national security by disclosing the identity of a covert CIA officer. |

Jay Inslee announced today that he was encouraged by the Department of Defense (DOD) decision to keep open crucial military facilities in Washington State during DOD’s base closure recommendations. Under the DOD realignment and closure proposal issued today, Washington State would actually gain positions from other areas of the country, including 1,401 positions at Naval Station Bremerton. |

16 March 2005 U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee voted in favor of a House emergency spending bill (H.R. 1268) that will increase funding for the safety and benefits of American troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The legislation gained bipartisan support because it met many of the demands of critics of the Iraq war and post-war planning to improve troop security and pay, congressional accountability and worldwide humanitarian efforts. Inslee has cosponsored legislation to improve safety for American troops in Iraq and today’s bill itemizes specific increases in military death gratuity benefits, troop and vehicle armor, and pay for service members. The bill also forces the Administration to provide Congress with a plan on post-war Iraq before receiving military-construction funding. |
