Efforts to Screen 100% of Checked Baggage for Explosives

"No" to Extension of Baggage Screening Deadline

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee voted against an amendment to extend the baggage screening deadline tonight in the House of Representatives. "We need greater passenger safety, not more extensions and excuses. Boeing is optimistic that the original screening deadline can be met, and I have faith that the creativity and diligence of the American people can make this happen," said Inslee.

Inslee visited SeaTac and expressed his frustration that the government has still not even ordered new baggage screening machines. It will be difficult to meet the baggage screening deadlines in December 2002 if our baggage screening machines have not yet been manufactured. Includes photos.

Inslee Amendment Adds $250 Million to Baggage Screening Efforts

The House of Representatives passed U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee's amendment to increase baggage screening funds by $250 million.Inslee wrote the amendment in response to Transportation Secretary Mineta's comments that the baggage screening deadlines passed into law were not likely to be met.

Inslee Amendment Requiring Baggage Screening

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee's Baggage Screening amendment, requiring that 100% of checked baggage be screened, was incorporated into the Republican Airport Security bill (HR 3150).House Republicans asked Inslee for use of his language in their bill, and Inslee agreed.The House of Representatives passed HR 3150 last night by a vote of 286-139, including Inslee's vote for passage.

Inslee introduces Baggage Screening Act

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee was joined by fellow Members of Congress to introduce the "Baggage Screening Act."The new bipartisan legislation calls for mandatory screening of checked luggage, and is being offered to encourage House Leadership to include baggage screening in any airport security packages.
