Rep. Taylor Presents Check for Improvements at Pardee Hospital

Washington, DC, Dec 8 -

Western North Carolina Representative Charles Taylor presented a check for $500,000 in federal funding today for a new operating room and surgical expansion at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville. The expansion is scheduled to be completed in October 2005 and will increase the current operating room capacity from 6 surgery bays to 10, while renovating the current operating room suites. In addition, this expansion will include:
- Expansion and renovation of pre-op holding areas,
- 2 expanded bays for post anesthesia and recovery
- Addition of a pharmacy area
- Expanded capability for neurosurgery with new equipment, physician staffing and space
- New and expanded laboratory for easier patient and surgical access

Rep. Taylor has pledged to request an additional $500,000 in funding for the project in the FY 2006 budget. “Anything that will improve a community’s health care is a good, worthwhile investment,” said Rep. Taylor. “Henderson County is experiencing tremendous growth and residents deserve to have the best healthcare available. I am proud to assist Pardee Hospital with this expansion.”

The surgery caseload at Pardee Hospital is expected to climb to over 9,000 procedures in 2010, an increase of more than 80% since 1996. The large number of people moving to Henderson County want healthcare options that are available in most metropolitan areas. With these improvements, Pardee can provide that level of service, technology and expertise.

"We are very appreciative of Congressman Taylor's support of our efforts to enhance the advanced healthcare services available in Henderson County," said Robert P. Goodwin, President/Chief Executive Officer of Pardee Hospital. "The expansion of Pardee's Surgical Services will be a great benefit to our growing community."
