Academy Board of Visitors to Meet Wednesday in Washington D.C.
U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The U.S. Air Force Academy's Board of Visitors is scheduled to meet in Washington, D.C., Nov. 15-16 to discuss a variety of issues relating to the Academy. In addition to Academy senior leadership, the following BOV members are presently scheduled to attend the meeting: Chairman of the Board of Visitors Charles Garcia, CEO and Chairman, Sterling Financial Group of Companies, 1983 graduate of the Air Force Academy; and Vice Chairman of the Board of Visitors; Senators Larry Craig, R-Idaho, Tim Johnson, D-South Dakota, and Senator Mark Pryor, D-Arkansas; Representatives Hefley, R-Colorado, and Kay Granger, R-Texas; former Representative Robert Dornan; Gen. U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Superintendent's box at Falcon Stadium will be dedicated to the memory of Lt. Gen. Paul E. Stein Saturday, in the press box immediately following the Air Force football game against Notre Dame.
General Stein graduated with the Academy's class of '66, and culminated his 31-year Air Force career as Superintendent here from July 1994 to July '97.

Specifically, all Falcon and Fighting Irish head gear will feature the six-toe, Jolly Green feet logo representing the Air Force rescue community, to honor the 12 Airmen of the 66th Rescue Squadron who died in the Sept. 3, 1998 mid-air collision of two HH-60 helicopters near Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., -- Cadets will light a bonfire in the cadet area Thursday evening to help whip up fervor for the upcoming Air Force Academy-Notre Dame football game this weekend. The cadets will gather near the bonfire for music at 6:40 p.m. The evening's schedule includes addresses by cadet wing leadership, and captains of several Academy intercollegiate teams, as well as performances by the Academy Cheerleaders, The Bird and the Drum & Bugle Corps. The bonfire will be lit at 7:13 p.m. and concludes at about 8 p.m., with the singing of the Air Force Song.

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Cadet 2nd Class (a junior) John A. Aguilar was found not guilty today on one count of violating Article 120 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), rape. A panel of seven officers conferred for approximately 25 minutes before delivering the verdict.

Halloween night trick-or-treating in Pine and Douglass Valleys is from 6 - 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Officials at 10th Security Forces Squadron are working to ensure the event is a safe one. Pets should be properly restrained when the door is opened for trick-or-treaters for the safety of both visitors and pets.

Flags went to half-staff Oct. 27 for the man who created a preparatory school from nothing. Col. Lee Black, founder and first commander of the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School, died Oct. 19 of natural causes. He was 88. Funeral services for Colonel Black were held Oct. 27. Then at 12:15 p.m., the Colonel returned to the Academy one final time, for his burial at the Academy Cemetery.

Portions of the stable area -- to include people and horses -- are being evacuated to an unaffected area of the base stables. Academy officials ask visitors and base residents to avoid the area until further notice. Academy housing areas and schools are not in any danger at this time.

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Cadets brought back the national first place Flying Events trophy from the National Intercollegiate Flying Association 2006 competition at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, May 8-13. The competition events are divided into flying and ground events. The Flying Events trophy is awarded to the school with the highest combined score in the flying events. The Academy team finished fourth of 28 teams in the race for the National Championship trophy, which is awarded to the school with the highest combined score in both ground and flying events.

The three-day course offers a variety of challenges including obstacle courses, trail runs, river-crossings and low crawling, all aimed at testing the teamwork, physical and mental ability of the cadet candidates.

Senior Airman Eli Stephens, 10th Medical Operations Squadron, is scheduled to go to court-martial on Wednesday. He is charged with several violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice: Article 80, attempting to steal Oxycodone in the form of Percocet tablets; Article 107, false official statement; Article 112a, wrongful use of Oxycodone in the form of Percocet tablets; and Article 121, stealing Oxycodone in the form of Percocet tablets.

Photo exhibit to honor Medal of Honor recipients
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Medal of Honor recipients and local dignitaries will attend the opening of the nation's first traveling photographic exhibit honoring recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration in a ceremony Thursday, May 11 at the Academy's McDermott Library. Colorado Senator Wayne Allard and Congressman Joel Hefley are expected to attend the opening ceremony, which features dramatic black and white portraits. The exhibit, entitled "Visions of Valor" will remain in the McDermott Library through commencement week. It will then be moved to the Academy's Visitors' Center June 2, where it will be available for viewing by the general public.
