Internship Opportunities
Internships are a great opportunity to learn about the workings of a fast-paced congressional office. Our offices offers internships in both our Oakland District office and in our Washington, D.C. office.
Our office expects interns to commit a minimum of three (3) months and to work a minimum of eight (8) hours per week in our Oakland Office and twenty-four (24) hours per week in our D.C. office, unless scheduled with a separate internship program.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication
skills and conduct themselves in a professional manner.
Duties:
Oakland Office: Interns in the Oakland office will primarily
assist staff with casework, the primary function of the district
office. Interns should possess writing and computer skills,
as casework requires direct contact with constituents and written
contact with federal agencies.
DC Office: Internship responsibilities in our DC office include a mixture of both administrative and legislative duties. Interns are expected to assist the staff assistant with the daily responsibilities including but not limited to: answering phones, sorting mail and data entry. Interns will also provide support to the legislative staff by performing research and writing public statements, assisting with constituent requests, working with other congressional offices, and a host of other duties. Internships are divided into semesters -- spring, summer and fall.
Application Process:
Send a cover letter and resume to the office in which you are interested
in interning. The cover letter is used as a writing sample,
and should include the dates of your availability, and an explanation
of your interest in interning for Congresswoman Barbara Lee.
In addition, be prepared to submit references. Direct any
