U.S.
Representative Ginny Brown-Waite
(FL-05) issued the following statement
today about President Bush signing into law the H.R. 6061, the Secure Fence Act
of 2006.This vital legislation authorizes
the construction of 700 miles of reinforced fencing along the southwest border.
“Americans want real border
security now,” said Rep. Brown-Waite.“I
heard from nearly 25,000 5th District residents about the need for
tighter border security, and almost unanimously, they oppose the Senate’s
amnesty bill and favor the House’s approach to close our borders first.Today, we have taken the next concrete step
in our efforts to secure America’s
borders.
“The Secure Fence Act
declares our commitment to the American people that we must stop the
hemorrhaging of our borders as soon as possible.Using a mixture of physical fences, unmanned
aerial vehicles and electronic sensors, 700 miles of our porous southern border
will soon be protected.Illegal aliens,
criminals, and terrorists alike can too easily cross the gaps too long left
unplugged.The Secure Fence Act will
stem that tide and help protect law-abiding American citizens.”
