HERSETH TO MEET WITH PRESIDENT WEDNESDAY MORNING

President Bush Invites Herseth to White House Briefing on Iraq and War on Terror

December 13, 2005, Washington, D.C. – President George W. Bush has invited Rep. Stephanie Herseth to a White House briefing on Iraq Wednesday morning. Herseth and other House Democrats will attend the briefing, which will also include Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq.

Herseth said, “I am pleased that the President is reaching out to me and other members of Congress. We owe it to the American people and, especially, to the troops to have an honest and bipartisan discussion about our goals and progress in Iraq. I’m looking forward to Wednesday’s briefing and to hearing from the President and the Secretary of Defense.”

Iraq’s first full-term parliamentary election since the fall of Saddam Hussein is scheduled for this Thursday.
