News from Rep. Stephanie Herseth STATEMENT FROM REP. HERSETH ON PHASE II AMENDMENT November 1, 2005, Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, the U.S. Forest Service released its Phase II Amendment for the Black Hills National Forest. Representative Stephanie Herseth released the following statement: “Periodically revising the forest plan is an essential part of managing any national forest. After so many years of work, I am pleased to see the release of the Phase II Amendment and I am encouraged by its content. “The forest plan includes important management initiatives to promote species viability, reduce the risk of fire, and establish four research areas throughout the forest. No two forests are alike, and this amendment takes many positive steps in recognizing and appreciating the specific needs of the Black Hills National Forest.” Herseth serves on the House Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over national forest land. # # #
