Rep. Stephanie Herseth HERSETH ANNOUNCES ACADEMY NOMINATIONS Recommends South Dakota's Best and Brightest to Military Academies January 12, 2006, Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth today announced the names of students she is nominating to U.S. Service Academies for the Class of 2010. Herseth nominated a range of South Dakota's best and brightest students, from all around the state. Herseth said, "I am proud to once again recommend an excellent slate of candidates for selection by a service academy. We received an extraordinarily impressive list of candidates, and these recipients are truly deserving. I look forward to great things from " South Dakota residents between the ages of 17 and 23 were eligible to apply to service academies if they met eligibility requirements in leadership, physical aptitude, scholarship and character. The four service academies are the Military Academy at West Point, New York; the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. The academies will make offers of appointment this spring. Herseth's nominees include, in alphabetical order: Sioux Falls Interviews: Tyrell Arment: Kadoka High School and is from Wanblee. Nomination to: Naval Academy John Bowman: Dakota Valley High School in Dakota Dunes Nomination to: Air Force, Naval Academy Jonathan Cameron: Hot Springs High School Nomination to: Naval, West Point Matthew Cordell: Wilmot native and is a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota Sioux Tribe. Nomination to: West Point, Merchant Marine Academy Benton English, Sioux Falls native Nomination to: West Point Miranda Fees: St. Thomas More High School in Rapid City Nomination to: Air Force, West Point Anne Gabrys: Deuel High School in Clear Lake Nomination to: Naval Academy Matthew Hanley: Rapid City Stevens High School. Nomination to: Naval Academy Michael Jansen: Home-schooled, Rapid City.
