News from Rep. Stephanie Herseth Herseth Statement on Decision to Reconvene Congress for Hurricane Aid September 1, 2005, Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth released the following statement on news that Congress will reconvene tomorrow, September 2, 2005, in order to provide emergency funding to FEMA for disaster aid to the Gulf Region. Rep. Herseth said, “I fully support the decision to reconvene Congress immediately to provide funding for aid of the victims of Hurricane Katrina. There are people suffering in New Orleans and around the region, and there should be no question about the need for swift action to help ease that pain.” She continued, “Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans four days ago, and we have to take every possible step to ensure that people get the necessities of food, water, shelter and medicine that they need to survive. I will work to ensure that the proper federal agencies have all the resources they need to take action.” # # # |
