Rep. Stephanie Herseth
HERSETH STATEMENT ON JOHANNS DROUGHT VISIT August 28, 2006, Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth announced that she will join Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns Tuesday for a tour of drought stricken areas in central South Dakota. The tour will take place in and around Hayes, SD. Herseth said, "I'm pleased that Secretary Johanns has agreed to see the drought devastation firsthand, and I look forward to joining him on this tour. For the sake of our producers, I sincerely hope it's not too little too late, and we can still secure some meaningful drought relief this year." On July 28, Rep. Herseth wrote a letter to Secretary Johanns, describing the worsening drought conditions in South Dakota and inviting him to come to the state to tour affected areas. Herseth added, "I'm pleased he has accepted the invitation of many South Dakotans to tour drought stricken areas. This drought is so severe, you truly have to see it with your own eyes to believe it." # # # |
