HERSETH TO DISCUSS HISTORIC BIOFUELS LEGISLATION ON C-SPAN'S WASHINGTON JOURNAL - THURSDAY MORNING

Bill Calls for Unprecedented Commitment to Renewable Biofuels as Part of America's Energy Policy

May 10, 2006, Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth will appear on ­C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" program Thursday morning May 11th, 2006 to discuss her new legislation in support of renewable biofuels. The program airs live at 9:00am Eastern - 8:00am Central - 7:00am Mountain.

Herseth, co-chair of the House Rural Working Group, will discuss the details of her new legislation, which is unprecedented in its commitment to placing renewable fuels at the center of our national energy policy. Herseth believes that clean, homegrown, renewable biofuels like ethanol and biodiesel are a key way to reduce our dependency on foreign oil, strengthen our national security, and invest in the future of rural America.

Her legislation will increase the biofuels mandate, expand the number of vehicles that can run on 85% ethanol (E-85), increase the number of E-85 pumps, encourage research and development into new biofuel technologies, and provide financing incentives for cooperative and independent ethanol plants.

Herseth is scheduled to appear for 30 minutes with host Susan Swain, and will take calls from viewers.
