SHERMAN: VALLEY FAMILIES CAN SHOW TROOPS THEY CARE WITH "GIFTS FROM THE HOMEFRONT"

[Washington, D.C.] – Congressman Brad Sherman today described how Valley residents can show their support for our troops overseas.

Many Americans would like to send care packages or letters to the troops overseas. Unfortunately, the current security and logistical situation makes it difficult to send mail or packages and is highly discouraged.

"Sending packages to troops in Iraq and Kuwait clogs the system and raises security concerns," said Sherman. "However, because of a new partnership between the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and CertifiChecks, there is a way for people to show their support of our service members by sending "Gifts from the Homefront" CertifiChecks. These gift certificates are redeemable for merchandising at all Army and Air Force Exchange Service PX and BXs throughout the world. There are PX stores in Kuwait and will soon be stores in Iraq."

CertifiChecks can be purchased 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year, and come in denominations of $10 and $20. These gift certificates can be redeemed to purchase health and beauty items, soft drinks, candy, snack items, pre-paid calling cards and much more.

At this time, CertifiChecks can only be sent to a specific service member at his or her APO or US mailing address. The military is currently working to find a solution to allow CertifiChecks to be sent to particular units or non-specific troops.

To send a CertificCheck, go to and click on the link "Gifts from the Homefront." Or call 1-877-770-GIFT (4438).

"Sending CertifiChecks is an excellent way for people to show their support of our service members," Sherman said.
