Republicans Want to Keep Senior Citizens' Taxes Low
Pelosi's San Francisco agenda would end tax relief, raid seniors’ savings

DALLAS, TEXAS- Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) today noted that Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to make GOP tax relief permanent would increase taxes for millions of America’s senior citizens.

“By failing to make GOP tax relief permanent, the Pelosi-Democrat agenda would raise taxes on 17 million seniors by more than $2000,” said Hensarling, Chairman of the Republican Study Committee Budget and Spending Taskforce.

“Nancy Pelosi’s agenda to raise taxes on all Americans might thrill the hearts of San Francisco voters, but I know that in Texas and across America’s heartland, her vision would have devastating effects on millions of senior citizens,” said Hensarling.  America’s seniors have been overtaxed throughout their lives and do not deserve to have their retirement savaged by spending happy liberals in Washington.”

Hensarling made clear that the tax relief passed by the Republican Congress and President Bush has allowed hard working Americans to keep more of their own money, creating a pro-growth environment that has enabled the economy to thrive.

The tax relief passed by President Bush and the Republican Congress has allowed seniors to save more of their own money to enjoy retirement and to pass on to their families,” said Hensarling. “In Nancy Pelosi’s world, massive tax increases and refusal to discuss ways to strengthen social security turn the golden years into the dark ages.”
