Pearce Announces On-Line Absentee Ballot Available to Military Personnel Stationed Overseas

Washington, Oct 22, 2004 - Congressman Steve Pearce announced the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) has made available an online back-up ballot for military personnel stationed overseas who have not received their paper absentee ballot.

“Our troops deployed around the world defending our freedom should have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in the coming election. This online ballot provides our troops with another opportunity to have their vote counted, Pearce said. “Many voters here in New Mexico have yet to receive their absentee ballots, the delays abroad can only be worse.”

The FVAP created the On-line Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (OFWAB) for citizens covered by the Uniformed and Overseas Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) who have not received their requested absentee ballot.

The FWAB may be used if the following criteria is met:
1) Be located outside the United States.
2) Have applied for a regular ballot early enough so that the request is received at least 30 days before the election.
3) Not have received the requested absentee ballot.

Instructions for completing the OFWAB can be found at www.fvap.gov/pubs/onlinefwab.html. The ballot is used to vote for Federal offices in general elections. The ballot must reach the local elections office before the polls close on the day of the election.
