Rep. Chet Edwards Leads Successful Fight For DOD Drug Discounts
Washington D.C. – U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards today successfully offered a motion to instruct conferees on the FY 2007 DOD Authorization bill to insist on a Senate provision regarding the TRICARE retail pharmacy program. It passed by a vote of 374-30 with 192 Democrats, 181 Republicans voting in favor and 30 Republicans opposed. This provision, adopted under the Senate version of the FY07 DOD Authorization bill, is designed to require pharmaceutical companies to extend DOD drug discounts to the TRICARE retail pharmacy program. Currently, pharmaceutical companies are refusing to grant discounts for the TRICARE retail pharmacy program like they do for drugs dispensed through the mail order program. September 7, 2006
