By Rep. Virginia Foxx

It has been a pleasure writing the “Foxx Report” each month to keep you up-to-date on what is happening in Washington.  A majority of my columns have focused on my legislative work. However, creating sound public policy is only one of my responsibilities.

I entered public office because I want to use the talents that the good Lord blessed me with to serve others and improve our quality of life.  Helping others is what motivates me on a daily basis.  That is why providing top-notch constituent service is one of the most rewarding aspects of serving in Congress.

My staff and I work hard to help the people of the Fifth District in every way possible.  We offer many services that you may not be aware of such as working to obtain service medals for military veterans who never received them, expediting passport applications for people who must head overseas on short notice, nominating qualified high school students to our military service academies and obtaining Presidential greetings for folks who are celebrating special events such as 50-year anniversaries. We can also have American flags flown over the U.S. Capitol for special occasions and coordinate Capitol tours for folks who are visiting Washington, D.C.

Our office also offers a wide array of services to help Fifth District residents solve problems they may encounter with federal government agencies.  Last year, we helped over 2000 constituents with these types of cases.  If you have a concern regarding Social Security, the IRS, veterans’ benefits, military cases, grant information, HUD, USDA or any other federal agency, please feel free to contact one of my constituent service representatives in our district office and we’ll be glad to assist you.

In order to receive help as soon as possible, please send a detailed letter outlining your situation to my Clemmons office along with a Privacy Release Form. This form can be found on my Web site, www.foxx.house.gov under “casework” in the constituent services section.  If you do not have internet access, you can pick up a copy at my Boone or Clemmons offices or my staff will be happy to mail the form directly to you.   In order to avoid delays, please send correspondence to my Clemmons, N.C. office only. By including as much information as possible, you will expedite the process.

I am also pleased to offer various internships throughout the year in my North Carolina and Washington, D.C. offices.  These internships are wonderful educational opportunities for college students to learn more about public service and our legislative branch of government.  I also accept applications for the House Republican Page Program.  To be qualified to serve as a Page, applicants must be at least 16-years old, a junior in high school and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the five primary subjects.

To learn more information about these services, please visit my Web site at www.foxx.house.gov and click on “constituent services.”  If you do not have a computer, please contact my Clemmons office at 336-778-0211 or toll-free at 1-866-677-8968.

My mission is to have the most responsive Congressional office in the nation.  My staff and I are working very hard to be accessible and to respond promptly to the concerns of the people I represent.  We have accomplished a great deal this past year, but our enthusiasm and dedication to service is strong and will continue to be that way.  We are energized, focused on serving and willing to work hard to fulfill our mission.
