Washington, Apr 11 -

Today, Congressman Garrett learned the EPA intends to publish a notice on April 19 of a proposed Federal rule regarding the return of the Ringwood Superfund site to the National Priorities List (NPL).

"I am very pleased with this step toward final and complete clean-up," said Congressman Garrett, who has been working with Federal and State officials to maximize the resources available at the site for clean-up. "This is a positive sign that we are moving forward and I will continue to work aggressively on behalf of the residents of Ringwood until the work is done."

"I appreciate the support of EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson and EPA Regional Administrator Alan Steinberg in this effort and am pleased that the Bush Administration is leading this unprecedented step in the Ringwood clean-up," Garrett further stated.

The notice of proposed rule-making will allow public comment for 60 days on the proposal to relist the site. If finalized, this would be the first time that a site has been ever been returned to the NPL after having been taken off of the list. The Clinton Administration took the site off the NPL in 1994.
