Pelosi: More Hot Air from the Bush Administration

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Bush Administration’s so-called “strategic plan” on climate change, presented today at a House Science Committee hearing:

“The world needs decisive action to prevent global warming; instead the Bush Administration keeps offering the American people more hot air.

“Rather than stepping forward with bold ideas to take on the challenge of climate change, Bush Administration officials repackaged their research and development plans and presented them to the House Science Committee as a new strategic plan.  There are precious few new ideas in this ‘strategic plan,’ and no new funding.  More importantly, never-ending research isn’t enough – we need strong policies to get new technologies to the marketplace and reduce global warming pollution.

“Even as the Bush Administration put forward its warmed-over plans to limit its climate activities to research and development, the Congressional Budget Office issued a report concluding that relying exclusively on R&D is insufficient and will increase the cost of reducing greenhouse gas emission in the long run.”
