Rep. Moore to Host Information Session for Small Businesses to Learn About Contracts and Bid Process for New Milwaukee Job Corps Center

(Washington, DC)— Congresswoman Gwen Moore will host an information session for Milwaukee area small businesses to learn about the bid process associated with the new Job Corps Center slated to open in Milwaukee in December 2009 or Spring 2010.  The session will provide important information for small firms who are interested in competing to win contracts for the design and construction associated with establishing this new Center.  At this session small businesses will learn from Job Corps officials exactly what they need to do in order take part in architectural design/engineering, and construction bids as well as proposals to operate and provide services for the $28 million Center.

In the next week the Department of Labor is expected to issue a notice of pre-qualification in the Federal Business Opportunities bulletin for architectural and engineering firms to design the new Job Corps facility.  Firms will have 30 days to submit an application for pre-qualification to DOL.  Only those that qualify will then be eligible to bid later—mostly likely early 2007—on the design contract for the center.  Official announcements about bids to construct and run the Center are expected to follow in the coming months.

Run by the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps is the nation's largest, most comprehensive residential education and job training program for at-risk youth between the ages of 16 and 24, combining classroom, practical, and work-based learning experiences to prepare youth for stable, long-term, decent-paying jobs.  Businesses with questions about becoming involved with this new project in Milwaukee, should contact Congresswoman Moore’s office at (414) 297-1140.
