Tucson, AZ – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva will present Mr. Ronald Homewytewa, a retired U.S. Navy sailor, his long-waited medals for his service in Vietnam.
The presentation will be at the office of Rep. Grijalva, 810 E. 22nd Street, in Tucson on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 1:00 PM.
Mr. Homewytewa, a member of the Tohono O’Odham Nation, served his tour of duty on the USS Providence. After completing his service, Mr. Homewytewa was never honored with the proper medals for his service to our country.
“We owe our very freedom and safety to our armed service members, both past and present,” said Grijalva. “I would like thank Mr. Homewytewa on behalf of the American people for his service to our country by presenting these long overdue medals. Our veterans are a testament to the real consequences of war and of safeguarding our nation’s democracy.”
Mr. Homewytewa will receive the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat Action Ribbon.
All metals were confirmed by the United States Navy and the National Personnel Records Center.
