Case talks story on the World Wide Web via podcasting on his website

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ed Case (2nd District, Hawaii) has begun podcasting on the Internet to provide listeners with another means to hear him comment on issues facing Congress today.

“My congressional website is offering the podcasts because they’re convenient and informative for anyone who chooses to listen. Convenient because podcasts, which are basically recorded Internet broadcasts, may be downloaded and heard via a home computer or an iPod or MP3 player at anytime that a listener chooses. And they’re informative because podcasts can offer discussions at length on complex issues which aren’t always readily available from traditional media,” said Case. “This is simply the best way to talk story on the World Wide Web.”

Case’s first podcasts are available on his website at www.house.gov/case and clicking on “Podcasts” in his website’s navigation bar. Case’s website visitors may then choose from a short commentary on environmental issues and a longer discussion, says Case, on “one of the most difficult, complex, and emotional debates in the country—immigration.”

“More than 22 million American adults own iPods or MP3 players and 29 percent of them have downloaded podcasts from the Web so that they could listen to audio files at a time of their choosing,” according to a report by The Pew Internet and American Life Project. “That amounts to more than 6 million adults who have tried this new feature that allows internet ‘broadcasts’ to be downloaded onto their portable listening device.”

Case will follow up his initial podcasts with others that will cover a variety of topics. “The podcasts will augment my current efforts to communicate with the people of Hawaii throughout my district via my e-newsletters and surveys, a statewide public access television series (Congressman Ed Case Reports), weekly radio shows, and regular Talk Story community meetings.”
