Defense Authorization Bill Passes the HouseLegislation Authorizes Funding For Military Projects in Nevada 9/29/2006
WASHINGTON, DC -- .S. Congressman Jim Gibbons (R-Nev.), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee and a member of the Conference Committee that crafted the final bill, announces the passage of the Senator John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007, which sets the policies, programs and funding levels for our nation’s military. Authorized in this legislation is funding for improvement projects at military bases throughout Nevada.
“This legislation is critically important for the continued advancement and capabilities of our nation’s military. We are fighting a war unlike any we have ever fought, and face unconventional means of warfare every day,” said Gibbons, a key leader in the development of this legislation. “Advancing the ongoing development of our military’s innovative technologies will allow our servicemen and women to continue making progress in the Global War on Terror.”
This legislation authorizes funding for several key projects in Nevada, such as:
• $26 million for Predator Support Facilities at Creech AFB
• $24 million for Predator Operations Facilities at Creech AFB
• $7.8 million for NAS Fallon Range Improvement Plan
• $5 million for Reno Air National Guard Vehicle Maintenance Complex, specifically new buildings upkeep of C-130 ground support equipment
This legislation also authorizes funding for U.S. Armed Services programs across the nation:
• $533 billion, including $463 billion for defense programs and $70 billion for an FY07 “bridge fund” supplemental for ongoing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan
• $24 billion for the replacement of Army and Marine Corps equipment
• $109.7 million for radio signal jamming devices to prevent the radio-initiation of roadside bombs

• $69 million to purchase IED jammers that can be carried by individual personnel to provide an umbrella of protection for small patrols
• $40.7 million for vehicle-born jammers based on an extremely effective and proven technology
• $100 million for at least 10 manned persistent surveillance aircraft to patrol road segments and other areas where IED activity is greatest . These surveillance platforms will be tactical assets controlled by ground commanders in combination with quick reaction forces to prevent IED emplacement
• 2.2% military pay raise with targeted raises for enlisted personnel
