Iran Freedom and Support Act of 2005

Date Introduced: 02/09/05
Bill Number: S.333
Description: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections of Iran's nuclear program since 2003 have revealed significant undeclared activities with potential application for nuclear weapons, including uranium enrichment facilities and plutonium separation efforts. Iran continues to defy the world community regarding its pursuit of nuclear weapons and recently stated its intention to restart its efforts to enrich uranium. Iran has an extensive inventory of ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear payloads to strike Israel and other American assets in the Middle East. A recent report from CIA stated Iran could produce nuclear weapons within 10 years. Additionally, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated publicly his goals of worldwide Islamic revolution and that Israel must be “wiped off the map.” The situation in Iran is very troubling, and I support efforts like this legislation to address this problem.
