A bill to amend the Packers and Stockyards Act, 1921, to prohibit the use of certain anti-competitive forward contracts.

Date Introduced: 04/28/05
Bill Number: S.960
Description: I believe all livestock producers should have a fair opportunity to get the highest price for their product. Today, livestock meatpackers are able to unfairly manipulate and control cattle prices through the use of “captive supplies” of cattle. The Captive Supply Reform Act would end this price-manipulating and force cattle prices to be controlled by the normal market forces of supply and demand. Wyoming cattle producers are not looking for a handout. They just want to be able to get a fair price for their cattle and have everyone play by the rules. I don’t think that is too much to ask.
