Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act

Date Introduced: 02/01/05
Bill Number: S.250
Description: I have long believed that Career and Technical education is an integral part of our educational system. With an economy that is continually upgrading and improving current technologies, it is important to provide the skills needed for workers to enter the workforce. The Carl D. Perkins Act provides resources to train American workers to fill these technical jobs. This legislation amends and reauthorizes the current Perkins Act. Among the changes that the bill would make to the current Perkins Act, S. 250 places more emphasis on academic instruction while also developing stronger partnerships between high schools, colleges and businesses. This allows local Career and Technical Education programs to better meet the needs of their local workforce and small businesses. S. 250 also develops a more effective accountability system which creates a distinction between secondary and postsecondary programs.
