Resolution recognizing the life of former Senator William Proxmire

Description: Former Democratic Senator William Proxmire passed away on December 15, 2005. Senator Proxmire served in the Military Intelligence Service of the United States Army from 1941-1946. He served the people of Wisconsin, with distinction, in the United States Senate from 1957 to 1989. In 1975, he initiated the “Golden Fleece” awards which honored the “biggest or most ridiculous or most ironic example of government waste. Throughout his years in the Senate, he was a tireless advocate for eradicating the world of genocide, which culminated in 1988 when the Senate ratified the international treaty outlawing genocide.
