| Description: Chief Justice Rehnquist passed away on September 3, 2005. This resolution honors his lifelong service to the United States as a World War II veteran and for his 33 years of service on the United States Supreme Court, of which 19 of those years were served as the Chief Justice. He was highly regarded by all of his colleagues and maintained an unwavering commitment to judicial restraint, judicial independence and the rule of law throughout his tenure on the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Rehnquist was the 16th Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. |
