Washington, May 20, 2005 - Congressman Jim Gerlach made the following statement after the House of Representatives passed on a bi-partisan basis the FY ’06 Interior Appropriations Bill Thursday night. The legislation includes a $500,000 earmark for the continued development of the Schuylkill River Heritage Corridor.

“The Schuylkill River heritage corridor is an invaluable recreation and economic resource for the region,” Rep. Gerlach said. “The money in the appropriations bill will allow for the further development and expansion of the areas surrounding the river which communities throughout the 6th District are building hiking trails, educational centers and environmental retreats.”

The legislation passed the House Thursday night by a 329-89 vote.
